The rail operator Lumo has been recognised as the ‘Best Small Employer' at the annual Proud Scotland Awards, Scotland’s national LGBTQ+ celebration of the individuals and businesses that champion diversity and equality.

The positive news comes at the start of Pride Month, with Lumo this week announcing that it will be supporting more Prides this year than ever before. The company is proudly partnering with Glasgow’s Pride, Stirling Pride, Edinburgh Pride and Pride in Gateshead. Lumo is also a headline partner for the Proud Scotland Awards.

As part of a commitment to creating an inclusive place of work for everyone, Lumo introduced gender-neutral uniforms for Customer Experience Ambassadors on its affordable and sustainable East Coast Main Line services last year. Trains on the route link Glasgow, Falkirk and Edinburgh with the North East of England and London.

The company also created around 100 new jobs with the launch of its new West Coast Main Line service in May, which connects Stirling with London Euston. The new route also calls at Larbert, Greenfaulds, Whifflet, Motherwell, Lockerbie, Carlisle, Preston, Crewe, Nuneaton and Milton Keynes.

As part of the launch celebrations, Lumo partnered with Pride Radio, an inclusive station broadcasting across the UK. The radio station’s Breakfast Show was broadcast live from a special ‘Rail Roadshow’ at Stirling Station, giving listeners the chance to win a range of exciting prizes and find out more about the new service. The bus has since visited Carlisle and Durham.

Jen Clare, Service Delivery Director at Lumo, said: “We’re genuinely honoured to have been recognised for our commitment to equality and diversity, two things that we’re incredibly passionate about as an employer in Scotland. This year is a particularly special one for us, as we continue to expand with new routes and new opportunities to stand proudly in support of LGBTQ+ communities and welcome everyone onboard.”

Peter Ferguson, Event Director at the Proud Scotland Awards, added: “Lumo’s support of the Proud Scotland Awards 2026 was instrumental in helping us deliver one of our most successful and impactful celebrations to date. As a brand that champions connectivity, accessibility and positive change, Lumo was a natural partner for an event dedicated to recognising excellence, courage and inclusion.

“Their involvement demonstrated a genuine commitment to supporting Scotland’s diverse communities, and we are incredibly proud to have had them alongside us as we celebrated the outstanding achievements of this year’s finalists and winners.”

Lumo is renowned for being among the top performing UK rail operators, with industry leading customer satisfaction scores and reliability. Lumo has also won a number of awards for its powerful community partnerships driven by purpose and making a positive difference.
