The award-winning open access operator Lumo has partnered with the Glasgow International Comedy Festival to provide customers with a unique opportunity to win tickets to this year’s festival.
Exciting new talent, Kate Hammer, who is performing at the festival this year, joined a Lumo service between Edinburgh and Glasgow Queen Street to host a special moving quiz show starring Lumo customers.

Lumo is a proud supporter of the Glasgow International Comedy Festival which officially begins today (11 March) with shows from comedians including Rosie O’Donnell, Sue Perkins and Alan Davies. The festival is also dedicated to showcasing the biggest rising stars.
Glasgow was added to Lumo’s popular East Coast Main Line route at the end of 2025, offering a sustainable way to travel to the city with 100% electric trains. Travelling with Lumo is affordable too, with tickets starting from an astonishing £41.90 between London and Glasgow or £14.90 between Newcastle and Glasgow.
Jen Clare, Service Delivery Director at Lumo, said: “Celebrating Glasgow’s thriving cultural scene is something that we’re passionate about and the Glasgow International Comedy Festival is a prime example of why people visit this amazing city.
“We’ve had a great response since we added Glasgow to our route last year, so we thought it was the perfect time to partner with the festival to organise a few surprises for our customers heading there.
“Thank you to Kate for giving us all a good laugh onboard as we celebrate the start of this year’s festival. We look forward to welcoming those travelling to watch the variety of shows on offer this year.”
Michael Bochel, Head of Marketing and Sponsorship at Glasgow International Comedy Festival, said: "We've loved working with Lumo and the fantastic Kate Hammer to spread the word about the start of GICF - putting on a comedy quiz show during a train journey was certainly a first for us, but it was a real hit with customers and a great way to kick off the festival.
"We're grateful to Lumo for their support this year in helping us show that Glasgow truly is the funniest city in the world. We've got some brilliant shows across the next three weeks, with comedy for all fans and ages, so don't miss out - get your tickets before they go!"
Kate Hammer said: "Telling jokes on a train has been on my bucket list for years, and I was ecstatic to finally make this dream a reality - and in such comfort and style! I love the GICF, so it was an honour to spread the word and the laughs, and let more people know about the newest way to get to Glasgow and join in on the fun!"

Customers can count on Lumo for a reliable way to get to the festival, with the operator picking up the award in the ‘Excellence in Minimising Cancellations’ category at the prestigious Golden Whistle Awards earlier this month. The annual ceremony, organised by Modern Railways magazine and the Chartered Institution of Rail Operators, recognise excellence in UK railway operations based purely on performance statistics.
Lumo is also preparing to launch a new service on the West Coast in the coming weeks, which will link Stirling directly with London Euston, in addition to calling at destinations including Lockerbie, Motherwell, Carlisle and Preston.
Comedian Kate Hammer will perform multiple shows at the Glasgow International Comedy Festival this year including her debut solo show 'Government Approved Comedian’. You can find out more about the show here.
