45 schools across the UK have benefitted from vital rail safety education in the past year thanks to the open access operators Lumo and Hull Trains.
The leading operators teamed up with the Rail Safe Friendly Programme to deliver sessions which led to a social value of over £483,000, educating thousands of young people.
The Rail Safe Friendly Programme is dedicated to spreading the message of rail safety among young people, educators and parents in schools across the UK. Lumo and Hull Trains have supported the important initiative for the past three years.
Richard Salkeld, Director of Communications & Partnerships at Lumo and Hull Trains, said: “Safety is always our top priority and it’s incredibly important to give young people the knowledge to stay safe.
“Our pioneering partnership with the team at Rail Safe Friendly has been ongoing for the past three years and it’s fantastic to see how well everyone engaged in the sessions.”
Earlier this year, Lumo and Hull Trains also marked Rail Safety Week by releasing shocking footage of a runner narrowly missing being hit by a train travelling at over 100mph.
The video, captured from a Lumo train passing through North Tyneside on the East Coast Main Line, showed the runner failing to safely use the crossing and served as a powerful reminder of the importance of paying attention to your surroundings and observing the crossing instructions.
