Lumo has become the first rail operator to officially partner with the popular Media Getaway event, held this week in Newcastle.
More than 100 travel writers, journalists and influencers are in the city and wider region this week with many arriving on Lumo’s popular open access services.

Each year Media Getaway promotes a UK city to domestic and international travel writers, journalists and influencers. Previous host cities have included Glasgow, Leeds and Chester.
Richard Salkeld, Director of Communications and Partnerships at Lumo, said: "Media Getaway is a tremendous event to showcase our sustainable and low-cost Lumo services along the East Coast and celebrate the great places to eat, play and stay when people visit Newcastle and wider region. At Lumo, we’re always proud to champion the North East of England.”
Howard Salinger, Managing Director of Travel Connection Group, said: "Bringing Media Getaway to North East England is a great opportunity for travel PRs and media to see a part of the UK they may have not seen before but will want to return to.
"We’re excited about the event in Newcastle and showcasing the region, as well as seeing all the fantastic coverage produced by the media at the event."
Many guests were greeted with an official welcome party at Newcastle Central Station with the backdrop of the Castle Keep and representatives from Experience North East England who have coordinated the event as the main destination partner.
