From educational exhibitions to markets, there’s something for everyone to enjoy this autumn. Here are some highlights you won’t want to miss:
1. Steam to Green
When: until 6 September 2026
Where: Newcastle
Head over to the Discovery Museum in Newcastle to discover their new exhibition: ‘Steam to Green: A North East Energy Revolution’. This family-friendly free exhibition shares the story of energy and the climate crisis in the North East from the Industrial Revolution to the pioneering contributions in green technologies of today. 2. Halloween Half-Term Activities at Life Science Centre
When: 26th October – 3rd November
Where: Newcastle
Join the spooky fun at Newcastle Life Science Centre. Meet the dinosaurs with the Teach Rex gang, an interactive show that explores everything we know about these fascinating creatures, or test your science skills at the Experiment Zone, as you carry practical experiments using a variety of tools and materials. And if you're in Newcastle on Friday 31st, you'll also have a chance to explore the science centre after dark and get involved in Halloween-themed activities such as slime workshops, spooky dancing and a yucky feely wall.

3. Autumn Explorers at Edinburgh Zoo
When: 14th – 16th October
Where: Edinburgh
Planning a trip to Edinburgh this half term? Be sure to make a stop at Edinburgh Zoo. The zoo makes a fantastic day out for the whole family, featuring exciting exhibits, over 2,500 incredible animals from around the world, and the famous penguin parade. On 14th-16th October, they'll also be offering three-hour sessions to introduce children to the wildlife at the zoo. The programme includes guided visits, themed games and many other fun activities. 4. Scottish International Storytelling Festival
When: 22nd October – 1st November
Where: Edinburgh
One of the largest storytelling festivals in the world, the Scottish International Storytelling Festival is a great opportunity to explore cultures, traditions, and storytelling styles from all around the world, connecting past, present, and future. This year’s theme is ‘Another Story’ and it .

5. Halloween at Kew Gardens
When: 17th October – 2 November
Where: London
Embark on a ghostly adventure at Kew Gardens. Explore the eerie trails and hidden surprises, including monsters lurking in Frankenstein's laboratory, giant spiders, wicked witches and more! 6. Hackney City Farm

Where: London
Calling all animal lovers! Get up close to a range of farmyard animals, including sheep, pigs and goats, at Hackney City Farm, a dedicated space to helping people learn about food, nature and the environment in the heart of London.
